Serra da Estrela, Portugal.
Canon EOS 6D, 24mm TSE shifted for the trees, f13, 1.6 sec, 100 ISO polariser, tripod.
I headed to the north of Portugal at the end of November hoping to find Autumn colour. From the information I was finding I thought I was going to be too late, but as it happens I had picked the right time.
This small forest is at 1500 metres in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, at the end of the Zezere glacial valley. The clouds were blowing along the valley and enveloping the forest, creating a misty atmosphere. Occasionally the sun broke through above the cloud and cast a subtle glow of light in the trees. This is one of those moments.
I met up with Alexandre Vaz from NSN for an afternoon along the cliffs on the coast to the west of Lisbon. I'll be posting a shells & rock detail in Flora & Macro from that afternoon shortly. More Autumn colour to follow.
Cheers
Marshall

Beautiful shot. Love the warm soft light provided by the fog, as well as the rich textures.

Nice! Really nice. Everything is placed perfectly within the composition. There is an amount of complexity and subtlety that belies the simple look. The placement of the yellow tree in the background, instead of as a main focus, creates such a depth and makes me want to keep exploring for a very long time. The diagonal fallen trunk at the bottom of the frame also helps lead the eye into the frame. This one would look great really large. My one complaint is that I find the trunk on the far left to be just a bit too close to the edge. Not inexcusable, but I'd like to see just a hair more space. Overall, I really enjoyed this one.

Wonderful fairy tale terrain. The colors are special.
A great photograph is absorbed by the eyes and stored in the heart.

Thanks for the comments and the editors' pick.
Chris Kayler, I know what you mean about the LH tree. I actually tried to include more of the rock in front of it, but the overall composition just went off! There was very little space to get the shot, even with a 24mm, I was backing into a tree to get this. Also, Chris, thanks for a nicely considered reply, I appreciated your thoughts.
The best thing was being there in some special conditions, good to be able to share.
Cheers
Marshall

Love this!
So much to look at, so much mood, so much emotion.
The LH tree does not detract from this.
Congrats on the EP...well deserved.
