Just back from 5 weeks in Ecuador and the Galapgos, mostly wildlife photography, but managed to get a few landscape shots in.

This waterfall was on a tributary to the Papallacta River, near Guango lodge, high in the Andes, altitude was about 2800m.  5 separate exposures combined using layer masks.

Why 5 exposures? I think one (or at most, two) would be completely fine. The image has a bit of a nasty overcooked/overprocessed/HDR kind of look to it to me, that would be reduced if you weren't trying to cram such dynamic range together :) I don't intend to sound rude, so hopefully you can appreciate that comment. I'd like to see one of the single files where the white is just about to start clipping. As for the rest of the image, I do like the composition even though it does seem a bit cramped and one-dimensional. My favorite part are the opposing diagonals of the waterfall itself and the striations of rock all along the stream bed.

No worries Chris, does look a little odd now I am looking at it again. I've done these before and it seemed a lot easier to get everything looking right.

Here is a single exposure (at 1/60 ) with minimal processing:

Hi Chris! Cool, thank you for posting the link to the single exposure. I do think it comes across better, but could still use some more work processing (I know you said it was minimal, so perhaps that is obvious  :)). I definitely like the darker blacks that come across, as well as the more natural look overall. With that said, perhaps upping the saturation overall would be a bit of a help as it seems quite dreary as is. Thanks again.

I also prefer the single exposure version as it does appear more natural.
