I find these pockets of vegetation to be the classic poster child for survival. I would love to get rid of the blue cast in the mountains-any thoughts?

I like the composition and the light. It seems to be a surreal presentation with the bright light on the FG and the dark ( polarized? ) sky. To get rid of the blue cast of the mountains you could try processing it as a separate layer in photoshop and then blending it back in. I don't see the colour as an issue for myself.

I love the composition and the pockets of vegetation definitely convey a message of “Survival”.

To remove the blue cast in Photoshop I would use “Select > Color Range” to select the blues then create a colour balance layer (this will create a mask from the selection) and shift the blues towards yellow. Then edit the mask to remove the layers affect from any unwanted areas. But there are many ways of achieving this and Dean’s suggestion of double processing and blending is equally good.

Paul.

I noticed many of my images from Death Valley have the same effect on the mountains. You can select a color in Lightroom using that <0> tool in the URC of the HSL box, and adjust it from there.....or convert it to Monochrome. I think this image would lend itself to a B & W conversion. I like the composition, but the sky seems over polarized, another reason it would lend it self to monochrome.

The play of shadows is wonderful in the image. I think the mountains are little too blue though.
