The Amphitheater

The Amphitheater is a slope on the southeast side of Lassen Volcano, shaped by temporary glaciers sliding down the mountain. It is rarely seen completely without snow, but the last two dry winters did the trick.

Hi Jens! An interesting and unique image here. That slope is wild ... it looks very big and you've done a good job of conveying the scale even in a photograph. The composition of the photograph is well done - I like the sweeping lines on the bottom, which then rise upwards from the bottom with the shape of the mountains jutting upwards, and then back again with the clouds. It really allows your eye to move around a lot. The haze is kind of unfortunate here in my opinion, but not much you could do about that. It just kind of makes the scene look a little more segmented than it should be ... particularly alone the horizon line.
