The Gooseberry River is located in Gooseberry State Park by the North Shore of Lake Superior of Minnesota. This was taken in the area of the Fifth Falls around sunset.

Fantastic river. I always like to imagine the hundreds of thousands of years it took the water to shape the rocks.
The color of the rocks and the looks great.
Great use of shutter speed.

The last glacier lobe was in and out of that area back and forth from 10,500 to 16,000 years ago. So at least 10,000 years of shaping of the rocks.

Cool shot and interesting color reflection in the water. My wish would be for the darker areas to be less blocked up.

Hi Jerry! Cool shot - I'm really enjoying the colors of sunset in the river. There is some nice directional light as well, even if it's diffused because the sun is below the horizon. The shutter speed is spot on for these rapids, just enough texture without being harsh or too soft. Contrast wise, I'd like to see the blacks brought up just a tad, as I find it a bit too contrasty and the shadows are lost somewhat. Compositionally, I like the flow. The purple flower is a nice touch, too.

The purple flower makes the f/g work...without it I would find the f/g rock to be "in the way".
Really nice water, agree on the shadows.

On a white background is is too dark. It does look better in the shadow box. But I definitely will open the shadows.

Thank you all for your comments.

Great earth tones, dissected by the white streaks of water.
A great photograph is absorbed by the eyes and stored in the heart.
