It has now been more than a year since I photographed utterly magical, surreal and beautiful Namibia. I spent two weeks, covering several thousand kilometres, from the world's second largest canyon, the Fish River Canyon in the South, to world famous Etosha National Park in the North. What a trip it was and I look forward to finally sharing my images and experiences with you.

Namibia is a vast, extremely sparsely populated country. The impression of wide, open spaces is like none I have experienced anywhere else. A country of harsh and unforgiving deserts and arid lands, and yet it is breathtakingly beautiful. It truly is a landscape photographer's dream.

My first stop was the Namib Rand, a nature conservation area comprising several private reserves which once were sheep farms. I arrived at night and I when I first saw this area in the morning, I was floored by its otherworldly beauty. It is almost impossible to describe, so I hope the images convey some of its character. This particular afternoon, I rushed up the highest peak in the area, in a frantic dash to catch the sun as it broke through a cloud bank to illuminate this vast land in golden light. For an idea of how high I was and for a sense of scale, note the tiny white spot on the bottom left, which is my guide's car :D

Gorgeous shot. Could you see this coming from down where the car is and decide it's worth hiking up?
A great photograph is absorbed by the eyes and stored in the heart.

Worth the hike. Besides the God-Rays, I like the separation of the hills and plain.

Great shot Christoph, did you use a grad or is it multiple exposures for the sky?
