Comet Lovejoy

Another view of Comet Lovejoy, this time a 12 image stack, with dark and bias frame subtraction, plus flat fielding using deep sky stacker. I found PS auto align couldn't handle field rotation due to the fixed lens, the field effectively rotates around a point about 1 field width to the right of the top RH corner of the image. Image then imported to PS for further processing.

Canon 1DMkIIn + 50mm f1.8; 8 exp 25s @ f2.8; 4 exp 15s @ f2 ISO800. All comments welcome.

Very nice comet trail and good exposure. I do find the oval-shaped stars a bit unfortunate - maybe a higher ISO and shorter exposure?

Very cool!

I do wish the stars were a bit sharper, though.

Although I am only viewing it on my phone, still looks amazing. I too miss land in the foreground as a frame of reference, but even on my phone I would rate it the best image I have seen of the comet, and I have seen heaps. All the hard work and dedication has paid off! Can't wait to see it with my own eyes tomorrow morning...
