This was my first attempt at photographing lightning.  I combined two of the better images into this one.  7D, 24-105mm @ 24mm, F5.6, ISO 400, tripod. Repeated 30 second exposures.  Wish for a better foreground.  Any suggestions especially on composition, settings, or technique would be most helpful.

Nice captures! The purple light creates a very appropriate mood. I especially like the left side of this picture. The shape of the bolt is very interesting and exciting. I wonder if a vertical crop would work a little better. Is your combined picture left and right? Seeing 2 bolts makes it hard to focus on a central idea. The bright palms on the right side are a bit distracting too. I would crop just to the left of center and maybe clone out the 3 little palms on the shore.

Thanks Cynthia, I tried the vertical crop of the left side with a little cloning and like it much better.
