I shot this frond just beginning to open up, and I liked the unusual angles.  Ultimately toned using a duotone preset in CS6.

Gorgeous! The subtle texture is indeed reminiscent of stone. Lovely light and composition, with the shallow DOF working very well to emphasize the most interesting elements.

I'm with Cindy on this one - my first thought was Salamander.  So I'll happily settle for her 'Newt like creature with frondy legs!'  8)

Love the colour tones Jackie, it gives the creature a prehistoric quality.
