I got to the trailhead along the Kenai Highway in Alaska a little after midnight and waited until after 3am so I could go through the trees at the lower elevations in the early morning light.  I did not want to bump into a brown bear in the dark. There was plenty of their sign along the trail.  By the time I got to the top I was ready for a nap. I was awakened by the wolverine gnawing on a winter killed moose's  bone for the marrow.  Painted my photo with Corel Painter.

Well I did have a run in with a belligerent moose on the way up, but his kick missed me.  He was blocking the trail on a steep area that was surrounded with impenetrable brush. So I learned to look for animal remains before napping, and not to crowd moose that will not get off the trail. The return was without incident.

It must have been amazing to see one of these rare and elusive creatures in the wild Jerry!  My first impression of this scene is that it is lacking in depth, especially the right half with the lighter bg which seems to come forward (the thumbnail without this lighter area shows a much better depth) and I wish the kill didn't come right up the the left frame edge.  Just my honest thoughts, picky bugga aren't I!

I did not like the DOF too so I blurred the BG behind the shrubs, But I ended up not using that part
After posting it, I began to not like the right side and the blending around the edges. I've been thinking of trying again.

I was pretty sure that you, with your artistic eye, would have felt a similar uncertainty about that.  Its always good to bounce thoughts and ideas off one another!  I know your honesty has helped me with my images in the past.  :)

Amazing incident Jerry. I too (along with Carol think this could be a bit better, given your considerable skills. My overall impression is that everything is just a bit blurry although the expression on the wolverine works well.
