I went down a different deer trail and caught this guy wading through some duck weed. He must have been avoiding the large rocks along the shore.
Digitally painted  photo using Corel Painter and Photoshop with Nik to edit. Used a digital brush that gives a worn and rough brush look. Click on it to see more detail in the shadowbox view.

Nice treatment.
Love the composition and the deer looking at the camera makes it special.

Nice work! I bet the original is nice, too.

Thanks. The original was OK. I removed some distracting brush and added canvas to the top and right.  Since it was surrounded by green grass, duckweed and leaves above, it had a strong green cast. So to save time by not color balancing and masking, I thought BW was the fast way to go. I may get back to a color version some day :)   The BW has about 15% cropped from the bottom and 20% from the left. The darn deer would not stay still for me to get into position for best comp.

Hi Jery

Beautiful work with the color and cleaning up the BG. I really like the pose and the frothy water.

Nice work, and great to see the original to learn just how much was accomplished.
Thanks for sharing.
