Who knew this about the House Wren?  If I was a bluebird or chickadee or any other cavity nesting small bird, wouldn't want to build a nest near them.  A camera (Pix Controller) installed inside a nest box shows how nasty the House Wren can be. I'd like to know how much those cameras cost (I keep my eyes open for these types of gadgets).

House Wren attacks baby bluebirds and throws them out of the nest.

House Wren destroys eggs of other cavity nesting birds.

Description from video. "The nest box had 6 chicks. Between feedings a house wren came into the box and removed 4 of the 6 chicks. When the chickadee parent returned it sat on the chicks outside of the nest cavity then coaxed them back into the nest cavity. The wren returned hours later and removed the two remaining chicks from the nest box."

This is a well known fact (I thought) about house wrens. That's why I try to put bluebird nest boxes well away from wooded areas. Wrens seem to leave them alone if I do.

It was news to me.  The house wren is not a species I get to photograph much of so as a consequence its behaviour has not crossed my radar.  I learn something every day though :-)
