I finally had an opportunity to catch up with one of these little alcids this past summer. My girlfriend and i were camping on Hornby Island(a small island off Vancouver Island) and decided to rent a two seater kayak. She was a sport about me bringing my gear and trying to shoot seabirds. This was the first and only Marbled murrelet of the trip. The water colour was created by the reflection of a cliff in the water.

Without a doubt, the best I have seen of this killer species. I really wish this was mine. The water color is so sweet. Really nice Mike.

Great detail on this little guy. A far better image of this specie than I have ever been able to get. Congrats!

Major envy here. As a kayaker, I've tried many times for this species with only marginal success. It looks like a juvenile. Was it end of August? We're any parents around, still feeding it. Great shot of a coveted bird!

You are bang on with the time frame, the date was August 29th. There was a huge flotilla of Alcids on the water that evening, mainly common murre, rhinos, guillemots but this was the only murrelet we encountered. Cheers Mike Ashbee
