Photo taken at Laguna Seca Ranch in South Texas.

Pyrrhuloxias are year-round residents to South Texas.  They live primarily in a thorny brush habitat.  You can always distinguish a Pyrrhuloxia from a Cardinal because a Pyrrhuloxia has a curved beak and a Cardinal has a straight beak.

Beauty, Gene. Great light and BG. Feather detail is also very nice. Only wish for a tail raise to separate it just a bit from the perch. Great photo nonetheless.

Best,

Matt

Another beauty Gene, love the pose, detail, light and dof ... agree that it would be better if the tail had been up. Such a pretty bird.
