Nice image, Joe. A little more room around would be nice.

I like the low angle, look-back pose and BG, Joe! Maybe a little more space at the bottom and on the right?

Thanks for the comments and input. Here's a looser crop:

Joe, I like the loser crop. You have captured the colours and details in the bird very we'll. I feel like the image is sloping down to the left

Since I was anticipating that comment from you, due to the angling away of the ridgeline, I cropped the first way to straighten it vertically. That's why there is no room around the bird. When I loosen the crop, the bird is in a natural position and has room around the sides and bottom, but appears to be off vertically, to some viewers eyes, due to parallax. One foot is lower down the slope. I probably should have posted the full frame image instead. The plants in the left BG show the verticality of the scene. Thanks for your input.

Joe, super look back pose with that regal stance, head area pops so nicely off BG.  For me, I actually like the horizontal environmental presentation best (last repost), it puts me right there in the moment, getting a sense of what it's like to encounter these decorative birds.

Joe, I really like the horizontal orientation. I know you wanted to demonstrate your point, but the vegetation in the background is wonderful and the extra room enhances this image IMO. I also like it this way because it helps my twisted brain see straight :)

Thanks! I really like the horizontal better myself!!! Sometimes I just work with images too long until I just can't tell what looks best. Then I know it's time to post and get some feedback from fresh eyes! Thanks, everyone, for your input.

A really nice natural pheasant pose here Joe. Could use more room around, but you probably don;t have it.

I like the low angle and head turn but I agree with Karl more canvas especially to the left would add to this image.

The third image with the wider view is so much better IMO Joe!

I like the full-frame, with a little off the top and right. Good shot.
