"Life Passes By"
After my many years of visiting Great Falls National Park, Virginia, to photograph the herons along the Potomac River, this completely unique opportunity presented itself when a heron landed behind me on a stand-alone rock next to this beautiful cascade. I just love the pattern captured in the wave. Out of ~30 images taken of this scene, this frame was the only one with this particular water pattern. Glad it also turned out to be a sharp one ... with the long shutter speeds it isn't easy!
Techs: Canon 7D, Canon 70-200 f/4 @ 87mm. 0.4 seconds, f/18, ISO 100. Tripod.

This is elegant. I really like the look of the waves surrounding the heron.

Well done.

I like when the bird is composed into a nearly-landscape photo. This is very nicely presented here. Congrats!

Chris

Nicely composed and the patterns were worth waiting for. The rock is a cryptic star of the image

It is great when you are in the right place at the right time, and you make great shooting choices. This is beautifully executed

Chris, another of your beautiful birdscapes for us to enjoy.  Yes, this particular water pattern is really impressive, lots of visual movement for the viewer, and anchored so nicely with the solidity of the rock.  Heron adds wonderful balance, standing on the smaller side of rock.
