It has been very hot here lately with harsh sunlight every day - not my favorite conditions for photography. I found this male tanager perching in the bright sun with an almost black background and grabbed a few shots. I actually liked the way it turned out. I would be interested in feedback from others here.

Canon 7D2, 500mm f4L IS II, ISO 640, f 8, 1/2500 sec, manual exposure, hand held.

Wonderful colour and eye contact from this bird against a beautiful contrasting background.

I like it too. The bird really has spotlight on him. Well done.

Bob, I think you made the best of the conditions you were forced to photograph in. I would be thrilled to have caught this gorgeous bird at all! You processed this image very well

Perfect exposure on the reds and yellows which rendered the background to be dark. In fact it works well here, making the bird pop.

Nice Bird. I'm personally not fond of all that empty space on the left especially because its dark but that is just me.

Bob

What a great bird to photograph. The head and upper chest are perfect. The bottom half and the dead dark space on the left do not really work for me but the subject has a riveting quality.

Cheers
Graeme
