 Male Blue-throated Bee-eaters (and other Bee-eaters) give gifts to females on two occasions;(1) In the same manner as testosterone-drenched human males they present them when they want sex (2) In a much more sensitive and understanding way they feed the female when she is egg-laying.....seemingly building her up nutritionally for the demands of this process. This gift was in category 2. The males and female look very similar...the males are slightly bigger and have a different shaped crown.
