In this case the flowers look very much like a dragonfly/

Male Blue-throated Bee-eaters (and other Bee-eaters) give gifts to females on two occasions;(1) In the same manner as testosterone-drenched human males they present them when they want sex
(2) In a much more sensitive and understanding way they feed the female when she is egg-laying.....seemingly building her up nutritionally for the demands of this process. This gift was in category 2.
The males and female look very similar...the males are slightly bigger and have a different shaped crown.   Canon EOS1DX, 500mm f4 lens, 1.4x, f8,  1/1000 sec,  ISO 1600 beanbag, SUV

Cheers

Fantastic looking frame Graeme. Great interaction here and I can feel the softness and tenderness to this food transfer. Love the perch and the BG. Thanks for posting this in a large size so we can see all the beautiful colors and details. Very nice!!

Beautiful capture of this interaction Graeme.   Each to his own - chocolates would work better for me but she's obviously got a thing for bugs!

Superb shot!

A beautiful photo of such beautiful birds. And thank you for sharing all the details of the shot as well - I learned how a bean bag is used in photography by Googling it!

Best,

Matt
