I just love Arctic terns - they are both elegant and cocky at the same time. Not afraid of attacking much more larger animals coming near their nest site.

Here I have used slower shutter speed and over exposure to get a more graceful approach to the picture - a technique good to use with terns and gulls on an overcast day. Nikon D4, 600/4, 1.4xTC. Image cropped just a few millimeters from top and left.

I have mentioned before that I like any form of experimentation. I like your explanation and details.
I must admit this does not get my neurons tingling.....may be cropped too tight.
Keep up your artistic approach.

Graeme

Thanks for your input and comment! The picture are barely cropped at all, just a few millimeters from top and left, the tern was very close to me when hovering for food. Maybe I should have used a shorter focal length.

You have to click on the image to bring in the darker surround and then it really sings! The mystical softness of the Angel wings pose against the detail and colour of the black and red works beautifully for me Daniel.

I do like this shot, though for myself would have preferred to see the entire bird. But saying that I like the technique you have used and especially love the motion and softness in the wings.
