Limited editing in Lightroom. I did make the plants and grass a bit more green and wonder if that is out of bounds in terms of post-production editing.

As a student in an introductory bird photography class, it was suggested that I post some shots to learn from others on this forum. After reviewing all of the wonderful photos on this forum for a few months, this is my 3rd photo that I have posted here.

Thank you very much for any comments and critiques

The green actually looks a little unnatural. It is not out of bounds but any such changes should look natural still.

The main feature with Turkeys is the skin folding around the face and this is nice to feature. This bird is not is very good light and the interesting part of the bird is too dark and the light is reflected from the back.

Light is the essence in most photography use it to highlight the interesting features of the target bird. Try and get the bird isolated so the viewer can concentrate on its features and not be distracted by other things. When shooting birds....especially something as large as a turkey I would use an aperture of at least f8 to get as much of the bird in focus as possible.

natural photography is a wonder pursuit....all the best with it

They really have a face that only a mother could love!

Graeme has covered the main points Matt, and I will just add that you have got some nice sharp detail of the head even though it could be in better light - and the low angle is just right for this type of shot.
