Most of the times these guys prefer natural perch as I noticed when I used a couple of nice flowering branches as potential perch.
The brighter top portion of the eye is the reflection of the blue sky.

Again I thank you for positing and commenting on the work of others. I note your comment on perch preference. Nice image of the tree swallow.
My preference in such a shot is the have wings frozen and in focus. Any potential action demands a shutter speed in excess of 1/2500 in my book.

Nice pose with a great looking BG color. The exposure and details look great Karl. Actually the eye color is the result of the nictitating membrane being half closed. Look close at the file at 100%. Nice capture.
