Male Long-tailed Duck landing on water which is at premium right now in Burlington Bay area.
In fact I saw only two small openings kept open by the ever moving ducks.

Nice shot Karl, good timing, its just skimming the water with one foot, so that's ice behind the duck?

Yes, it is the ice. The whole area is covered with ice except two little patches and area of about 5 meters by 40 meters.
Eighty five percent of the surface of the Great Lakes is covered by ice this winter, some like Lake Erie is hundred percent.

Nice shot Karl. The exposure here is nicely done. One of the coldest Februarys on record in Ottawa for a couple of decades at least (from what I hear in the news anyway).
