White Bellied Woodstar  Chaetocercus mulsant

Spent quite a bit of time trying for shots of these little guys at Guango, the larger hummers would be chasing and disputing and these would just waft in and feed.  They would hover and feed, back off a bit and hover then come back to the feeder, the technique was to wait for them to back off and snap them while they hovered for a second to keep the feeder out of the frame.

Nice shot Chris - I use same technique for these guys - These little hummers act more like bees and some tropical bees sting can kill a hummingbird and some think that is reason that the larger hummers usually ignore these guys

Nice flight shot, Chris, yes that technique works well. I tried it using manual focus and a remote.

Regards,

Rob
