I'm a duck lover and that's a lifer for me!  What a great looking drake.  The beautiful colors and the the trailing feathers are awesome and I love the pattern on the chest. Nice pose, eye contact and BG along with some solid shooting techs adds up to a real pleasure to view.  Well done Carol

Incredible image of a wonderful duck! You did him proud with the perfect  capture of his stunning iridescence and patterns and curled long wing tips. He even is sporting neckwear.  Would love to see that one sometime. Very nice work Carol!

Superb shot of this wonderful species, Carol!
I suppose it wasn't an option to shoot lower in this case?

Thank you KK!  No, it wasn't possible to shoot lower with quite a steep bank to the lake and as these are so rare over here I didn't want to spook him.  :)

I love ducks too, I can sit for hours by a lake just watching them and to see what comes and goes, I think it comes from my father taking me with him when he went fishing almost as soon as I could walk!  He would fish and I would watch the wildlife as he taught me how to identify them.  That love of wildlife came long before I thought about photography. :)

Thank you for your comments, always much appreciated!

Oh, Carol, what an extremely handsome boy. Isn't he full of himself? An absolutely gorgeous picture too, with all the iridescent colors and beautiful markings. Must have been such a thrill to see him.

I have only seen these in captive waterfowl collections. I can't imagine what it would be like to see one in the wild. Lucky you, and a great image as well. Congrats!

Thank you Cindy, and thank you Bob. It was a big thrill for me, and I had to take what I could get before he moved on. We don't know if it had escaped from a private collection, or if it had migrated in from Europe/Russia but definitely happy it appeared!

Brilliant detail on this gorgeous drake Carol, I have never set on eyes on a Falcated duck before, a real cracker. Would have been the icing on the cake to get this one from a shallow a shallow bank.

Congrats,

Rob
