Yes, superb was the word that came to my mind too.  How close were you to the bird?

Thank you for the kind words! The merganser flew relatively close parallel to the jetty.

Congrats on E.P. Lovely shot. From what I've seen these guys travel at great speeds so nice work tracking and freezing him.

Thanks, Michael! They really are quite fast, I googled it just for fun and they supposedly reach 80 mph and even 100 mph when pursued by an airplane (who on earth would do that?)  :)
