Hi,

this is one of the more common parrots in South Eastern Australia and one of my favorite birds. They are just stunning in real life and seeing one fly through the rain forest is just amazing. However, it's quite challenging to get a good picture of them. I have photographed them a few times over the years but never got a shot I was really happy with. First of all they are quite large (43cm - 17inch) and secondly they often don't pose very nicely. Most times they sit in a pose with the tail almost horizontally and their neck not extended, which doesn't make for the nicest pictures. I assume this has to do with their size and them trying to balance their bodies on a branch,

Last week I finally got a shot I was happy with. The bird sits in a nice upright pose and you can also see that awesome bright line of feathers on the wing, which is often covered by the surrounding dark green feathers,

The reds gave me a real headache when editing the image and they don't look as vibrant as I would've liked due to the limits of the srgb colour space for the web image... Hope they still look fine, though.

Very nice Jan, agree they can be difficult to shoot, they often pose like this for me but behind obstructions or in otherwise non photogenic situations.

I can certainly see why you are happy with this as I would be as well. I love the way the leaves frame in around the bird. Well done
