Fasciated Tiger-heron (Tigrisoma fasciatum)
Manu National Park, Peru

Nikon D800 | 300mm | F29 | 1/4 | ISO100 | Circular Polarizer | Timer

Here is my absolute favourite shot from my time in Manu National Park. While the encounter itself was not as exiting as the ones with Jaguars, Margays or Crested Eagles, I could not have asked for a more tolerant individual and more photogenic setting.

When I first saw this heron, it was on an awful spot about 200 meters down river and I walked pass it as I was going back to the Lodge for lunch. The Heron then fly by past me and perched on this gorgeous waterfall and stayed there long enough for a few photos. After this experience I will always keep a Neutral density filter on my backpack for extra smooth water.

Hope you like it!

All the best,

Alfredo

Muy buena imagen sin duda!
Love the small-in-the-frame composition and silky water.

Alfredo

Very nice shot....would almost fall under landscape but a real bonus to have the bird in that position.

Very nice, Alfredo. I have some similar shots from a few years ago here in Costa Rica and they are also among my faves. Any time you can get a sharp subject and flowing water, you've got something going on. Great techs to realize your vision. You should like it for sure! Just a touch of selective brightening on the bird would improve this already fine image IMHO.

Cheers,
Greg
