When I first went to Kenya I marvelled at this strange-looking eagle with virtually no tail. I wanted a nice image of one but they were elusive and somewhat precarious fliers.
Bateleur eagles are a medium-sized eagle and the name is 'tight-rope walker' or 'street performer' in French. It refers to the corrective movements the bird makes in flight, similar to a tight-rope walker.
Several trip went by and no decent image.....then in the final hours of a trip I got two for the price of one.

Canon EOS1D Mk3, 500mm f lens, 1.4x, f7.1 1/2000sec. iso 400. (I was ready for a flight shot)

Cheers

Graeme

Unusual but a beautiful looking raptor. Nice timing on capturing this behavior, the details are excellent.
