A shot from our Galapagos tour last year and a species that I haven't seen posted here before. This was taken on Santa Cruz Island on a pier, so I took a portrait as the surroundings weren't great. The Lava Heron is a Galapagos endemic. I liked all the various shades of blue and gray.

Wonderful portrait! Certainly nice details!
Where was it perching? And what was the background?
It doesn't matter who you are, but where you are and when you are.

Nice head shot with good detail, Nate!
Would give it a slight contrast boost.

Thanks for your comments. It was perched on the dock at the harbor at Puerto Ayora. The background is water.

Great detail in this portrait Nate. I might lighten it up a tad if it were mine.

Nice portrait shot, Nate. Love the fine details and matching background.
I just looked up the one I have from 2004 but unfortunately it won't be good enough to post it here.
