This has been my nemesis bird for several years so I recently made it my priority. I made several early morning (up at 4 AM) trips to an area where they are known to hunt. I sat at the edge of the meadow and waited, hoping that one would fly close enough in adequate light. It was frustrating and exhilarating at the same time to see them flying about in near darkness and being unable to get any images. I finally got my chance the other day but unfortunately had to shoot at a very high ISO (I seldom go above 800 and usually stay between 200 and 400). I know there have been many excellent barn owl images posted here and mine is not in that category, but hey - its my first!!
I'll keep at it until I get what I want.

Congratulations on your first BIF Barn Owl image. Most of us only dream about seeing one in flight.

Yep, just keep at it. The more you go after a certain species, the more you learn about their habitats. This translates into getting better and better images. I like the head turn and the habitat.
You cannot save time, you can only spend it wisely, or perhaps, freeze a moment of it forever in a photograph

Nice for you to catch this fellow in the wild Bob. They are pretty well extincted in our area.

Hi Bob

I see one in flight quite regularly but it is dark and only a ghost. This is very well done and congratulations on nailing the ghost.

Congratulations on your first one, determination always pays off and you have shown it here, keep trying and you will
keep on getting better. I like the eye contact here very much. The foreground and the background are nice as well.
