This image is a summary of biology and current ecological circumstance.

Blue-throated Bee-eaters have been nesting for the last 5 months and mostly have fledged their chicks and migrated north. There are only a handful left and one was sitting waiting for flying insects as the sun rose. The sun was forcing to be noticed through a blanket of smoke-haze from forest fires in Sumatra.

Canon EOS1DX,  500mm 1.4ex, f8, 1/5000th...handheld...yikes

Good thinking here. Very nice image. Would be even stronger if the bird was on a natural perch.

Graeme, such a striking, graphic image.  Wonderful placement and outline of bird carrying the darker tonal values of the haze then placed strategically within the sun.
