Canon 5Diii, Canon 300mm f2.8 ii + 2.0x TC iii, f6.3, 1/800, ISO 1000, Handheld from a Kayak
Please view in shadow box. It was mid to late morning and I was paddling back to my car in harsh light when I spotted a small outline on a distant log. Luck was with me and the wind at my back pushed me slowly closer and a cloud passed across the sun diffusing the harsh back lighting. I arrested my drift to shoot for a couple of minutes. Just before the sun came back out some other paddlers startled the bird and it took flight. I could hardly keep up with it and fired off a quick burst. Fortunately there was one frame in sharp focus. I will add that I have never seen a Green Heron up here in NW Vermont. I am aware that they have a wide range, but for me this was quite a find! Chris White
