Not a technically perfect image, but one worth sharing.  Notice the osprey nest poking into the left edge of the frame.

While anchored at a favorite local osprey nest I witnessed an interesting interaction between mom and a mallard and her ducklings.  The female osprey was perched about 40 feet from the nest on a log when this mallard and her two ducklings foraged too close to the osprey nest.  All of a sudden the osprey took off from the perch and began circling around the mallard.  She scolded and then began dive bombing the mallard and her ducklings.  At the last second the trio of ducks would dive under water as the osprey hit the water right where they were.  The ducks frantically avoided almost 10 dives before getting far enough from the next so that the osprey would calm down.

Interestingly, the ducks ended up underneath the osprey's original perch which the osprey went back to.  For the next half hour the osprey perched nonchalantly about 6 feet above the mallard as the mallard groomed herself and the ducklings played with each other in the water... as if nothing bad had just happened.

Interesting capture and story Chris --- good view of the impressive landing gear of the osprey.

Nice story. Must have been fun watching this unfold in front of your eyes. The picture surely tells the story.

Fascinating story Chris, who would think a little hen mallard and ducklings would unsettle an osprey! This must have been great to watch!

very nice shot, were is this? I personally always favor shots that while not technically perfect but tell a story, to those that are technically perfect but bland. Great job!

Stunning shot. I like the out of focus Osprey and the female duck looking at it.
And great story of very interesting behavior.
