This image is of a Great Horned Owls nest in Usery Mountain Park. The owl is nested in the arms of a Saguaro Cactus. Tonight it was a little windy, and they were not active at all. This image was taken with a 7D, 600mm IS Series I, with 1.4 extender Series II, on a Gitzo tripod with Wimberly Head. Edited in Lightroom and Nik Software's ColorEfx Pro 4, and taken after the sun had gone down.

I would love your critiques.

Nice job in the low light, I like the dof with the cactus in good focus too. If you haven't cropped it at all yet, you could also make a nice vertical out of this. I'm not keen on the border you chose.

Nice image. Wish I had more time to chat with you yesterday, I was the one who stopped to talk on the 4 wheeler.

Did you see the big hawk on the nest there also?

Mary,

Sorry we did not talk more the other night, but it was nice to talk with you. I had seen the hawks nest on Sunday, but had not been watching it. Do you know if the chicks there had fledged yet, the one bird I saw made me think it was a juvenile Red Tail that had recently fledged, but I admit that I am not the best at identifying birds.

The hawks did not look ready to fledge at all, I thought they were fairly small. I think the owlets have a little while to go also. Hopefully I'll run into you somewhere.....
