The title should have been "Got a comb?"  Quite a number of snowy owls still in Ottawa and surrounding area.  A good chance we'll see snowy owls here for at least this week and maybe longer.  I have seen or knew about 4 adult male snowy owls.

I don't have to tell you, but that 500 f4 II is one superb lens even with the 1.4x. I used it today in the rain.  Photos are sharp straight from camera.  I used the 100-400L IS yesterday and it just does not compare in any way, of course.

Canon 40D, Canon 500 f4 II + Canon 1.4x III on Gitzo tripod during showers.  Thanks for looking.

Why the snowy owls I see in this forum only have small eyes. Remember I got one in Singapore with big round eyes. Since my knowledge of Snowies is limited. Can you elaborate. Thanks.

Terrific capture! A different view , very dynamic-really tells the story. As to the "small eyes"- I think they squint a lot in the daylight-sometimes they are half asleep. Agreed?

Hi Wilson and Cynthia.  I am by no means an expert  but think a snowy owl will open its eyes wider to improve efficiency (light gathering) such as during lower light conditions at dusk and dawn especially when hunting when it needs to be alert.  I photographed the owl as it was preening itself, so not an activity that requires it to be totally alert.

Tee-hee ... this one looks a bit grumpy being wet! I saw one on the weekend too.
