This was my first time of really trying to capture the smaller birds. At Ft. Desoto there was a good fall out of migratory birds, so I gave it a go. It was later in the day than I would of liked, so I tried to capture them when they were more in shade than not. This one landed in a area that was fairly open and the filtered light seemed more even. Taken with the Nikon D300s and Nikon 500 f/4 lens, iso 640, f/7.1, 1/500, SB-700, no beamer, set on +.7.

Did a very nice job for a first time of trying :)
Nice pose and detail in the bird. Like the catchlight in its eye.

Great job in the tough lighting conditions under the branches and the leaves...nice pose and details on the Tanager and I really like the blurred BG that you controlled with the DOF....nicely done Nancy

Very good image for a non set up shot. Well done Nancy. Might crop some off the top to minimize that large branch
