Pine Martens are more accurately known as American Martens and are members of the Mustelidae family of animals that includes wolverines, fishers, weasels and skunks. Using their sharp, curved claws for climbing, they seem to defy gravity and gracefully move through the air.   Although naturally very illusive, Ontario's Algonquin park is a unique spot to observe the Pine Martens in close proximity.  Super sweet to look at, one cannot be fooled by their appearance, for these carnivores are quite ruthless.

Real nice "backyard" you have there Missy! 8)  Another well made image of this Pine Marten. The tree trunks nicely frame it, and it's posture and eye contact are just great.

That has to be the most unique pose for a Pine Marten. Outstanding image Missy.

Too funny Missy!   I love the strong man pose - as thought its trying to push the trees apart, and what's with that wonky ear!   8)

Lucky you to have these nearby and be able to get the shots.    Love it!      :)

What a great and unique post you captured this guy in!  Awesome.  On my screen it looks like it could go just a tad darker and use one more hit of sharpening, but every screen is different so I could be out in left field.

Outstanding shot! I have seen pine martens several times while on canoe trips to the Boundary Waters in Northern Minnesota, but don't even have a single frame of one, much less a beautiful shot like yours.

Wow what a great capture Missy! Love the pose, composition, and expression. The soft light, cool tones and snow on the face makes me shiver a little.

Great comical behavior. We have been to Algonquin several times but not in winter. Maybe some day we will get images of these cute little critters. Did you use any flash?
