Caught with the evidence ! As this Red Fox Kit emerged from the den with this bird feather stuck to its nose!  ( I think Grouse ?) It seemed oblivious to the feather being there stuck to its nose!   I was chuckling to myself and really trying to be serious and focused on the moment!  I think mom had returned earlier to the den where four kits were waiting for the bird dinner.  Taken on my farm where over the past several years Red Fox had used a den under the horse barn for awhile.   These are completely wild fox , with no human involvement . I had constructed a blind with hay bales and a very narrow viewing opening to see and hopefully capture an image of the fox family.
Even though I regularly went to the barn to feed the horses , I moved quickly into the barn and never encountered any fox while doing this daily feeding.

Nikon D610, Nikon lens 200-400VR F4, @ 330mm, -.67 Meter compensation, 1/800, F7.1, ISO 220,  Hand held while laying prone behind the blind,   taken @ 10:30am,

comments really appreciated.

This is so cute! The dark background sets off both the kit and the feather nicely. The alert, ears up pose just couldn't be sweeter. Great way to take advantage of this opportunity in a way that is not intruding on their lives.

Click on this to bring in the darker surround and you can see it is a beauty! Not only is it an excellent technical shot, but the content and appeal is off the scale.

Superb image Bill, and a definite winner!

Hello ... For me,.. the Red Fox in general is very special to me ! Love their very sharp expressive features!

Hoping the family will return this springtime. We are coming into their breeding season here, into February, they get quite active , but mostly during the nighttime. Have seen their footfalls in the freshly fallen snow recently, so I know they are around!

Thanks to all, for the support and excellent feedback !:)

Perfect image! Beautiful in every way!

Yes, I believe you are right: I think Spruce Grouse (strong barring) not Ruffed :)

Bill, this image is so special. The feather is just icing on the cake. I love the way it pops on the dark BG. Congrats on a well deserved EP!
