The unseasonably mild weather has led to a somewhat suppressed rutting season this year. This image was from a morning few weeks back, when the light was slightly special.

A shame about the fg out of focus vegetation in this otherwise nice illustration of the classic roaring pose. This warm spell is really confusing flora and fauna in general!

That open mouth framed by the antlers immediately draws attention. Liked the space all around.

Thanks for taking the time to comment, Carol. The foreground 'mush' is very much my style. The diffused fore & background help focuses my eye on the subject, but I understand and accept that this may not be to everyone's taste.

Nice one Des, colours make it. Definitely agree about the weather, it was 20° in Munich yesterday... should be snowing already! :(
