Certainly not the best of BGs, but sometimes you take what you can get! Found these four on a newer logging road in the back country. I think this is Mom with her 6 month old calf followed by her 2 year old twin boys who are still hangin' with Mom.

I get a kick out of young bull's antlers, they are a real embarrassment.

I like the highlight on mum's nose and the curious head tilt of the calf -- a fine family group shot.

Nice group photo. Agree that the background is unfortunate.

The bg is what it is but the family group is a lovely find Mark. I love their inquisitive expressions, and well done Mum!

That's a lot of moose - how's the tick problem up there? These guys look good. Steve

The tick problem is at epidemic level with 53% of the collared, studied Maine Moose dying last year. The herd numbers are way down compared to 10 years ago.The mom moose in this photo actually has about a 15% tick infestation - much more obvious from the side view shown here:

You can clearly see the bald patches typical of tick damage. Look at the middle of her back on the top, plus her shoulders. Now I don't think that that amount of tick damage will be life threatening for the upcoming Winter months, but it certainly won't help her to stay warm! It's hard to tell if she has any new ticks on her judging from these photos. The two young bulls looked good with no apparent tick damage yet.  This is a MAJOR problem in all of the New England states! :(

Just another family taking a stroll through the woods. Interesting to me that the two boys are in the back. I like the slight head turn of the calf.

Looks like they've spotted you! I like the head tilt with the eye contact.  :-)

EDIT-  Just saw the view of the winter tick.  Sucks.
