This was taken just as the sun was coming up. Fascinating animals. Every time I get a chance to spend a few days with them I hate when it's time to go home.

The stacked bodies all lined up make for a very nice abstract, and the face with those wonderful doe-like eyes is just the icing on the cake!

I love the body lines. And then the break by the head and wrinkles. Really nice shot.
(May be the first 200-500 image I've seen posted!)

Thank you! Last week I posted a shot of Wood Duck Hen that was taken with the 200-500, and my other elephant seal shots posted used it as well. I'll have a lot more photos to post from this lens. I love it.

Thanks! They really have deep eyes, don't they? It's really powerful when they make eye contact with you and just gaze for a moment.

Rick, I love this image. It is so powerful with those giant sad sack eyes peering at you, and those graphic bodies lined up beside him. IMO, cropping it below the dark tail (if that is a tail) on the right would improve it.

I think this is my favorite of your ele seal images so far, I really like the graphic aspect to the image. I like it as presented but I also like Missy's suggested crop which totally makes those big eyes the focal point.

One thing that makes them great subjects is most of them don't move around a whole lot. So I was able to get a little more creative with the comps. I have a couple more abstracty seal shots I might post.

Very nice work with the early light and the 200-500mm.
