This technique is hard to pull off perfectly. The speed of the pan must match the speed of the subject exactly. With a running animal there is probably a bit of up and down also, making a sharp eye/face a minor miracle.

Love the motion portrayed here. Agree with Jeff. I tried this on swans this spring and got tons of also rans!
