The shoreline is about half a mile from my house. We get regular visits from Smooth-coated Otters there, anything from a single otter to a family group of 9.
Sometimes they den in the rocks and you can smell their location. I staked out on place where I had seen then den in the past. Sure enough a pair came in from the sea and after a quick check of the surroundings they went into their temporary den I local family member saw them and yelled to the others....look beavers!!!!!
