A couple of years ago, someone reported having seen a four foot long alligator at Bosque del Apache. It was never found. Although it is unlikely, but not impossible, to have seen a gator there, I'd bet this is what they saw! Many of you will probably recognize this creature, but I will post a more complete image later.

I knew some sharp eyes would recognize what it was!!! These guys are unbelievably fast on land, even though their feet are webbed! Here are a couple of larger examples of softshell turtles from Bosque:

I only know what it is because you've taught me well Joe!  Now you might believe me when I say I am really fascinated by your images and information on the wildlife in Bosque.  I love wildlife wherever its found and love learning about it in the places I haven't been - especially from someone who is so knowledgeable of a certain area, and willing to share that knowledge - like you.  Thank you. 8)

Would surely catch your eye popping up out of still waters. Caught a small one of these when I was a kid (silver dollar size) A lot meaner than the little sliders!
