Out early looking for pileated woodpeckers, this was all I found.

A nice alert pose but this appears to be quite a crop which has resulted in the quality of the image suffering as a result ?

No crop at all!  Very early morning light; very slow shutter speed.

Ah, this explains why nothing appears in focus then.  A shame.

Well...at least I got the Douglas part right.  But you're absolutely correct...the red squirrel (T. hudsonicus) is not found on the Pacific slope.  I've got to quit relying on my out-of-date recollection of mammalogy (1958).  At that time I think they considered T. douglasii a sub-species of the red, but, again, my memory is cloudy. Thanks for pointing it out.
