I like the use of negative space here but as the large amount of dark vegetation is so overpowering, I prefer the proportions shown in the thumbnail which gives a more balanced composition. I like the light on the jackal!

I like the concept here with the jackal in the bright patch but I have to agree with Carol that a bit less of the dark would be more effective, while still conveying the feeling of the image.

ditto the above. nice thinking though. Another interpretation would be vertical crop running from where the I in your surname lies, but either way, good to see your interpretation.
