Although this striking fellow (no pun intended) was taken under controlled conditions, I replaced my macro lens with my 300 2.8 and stood well back giving this very dangerous snake lots of respect.
It is extremely fast and very excitable with a length of 96 plus inches. It's potent venom is responsible for many human deaths each year in Costa Rica.

Taken with a Nikon D7100, Nikkor 300 2.8, tripod and manual flash

f/7.1 @ 1/50 sec ISO-400.

Not the best angle to get a clear view of the subjects' characteristics but it does give a feel for the caution required!
