Handheld from boat/ Panga Normally I don't include people in wildlife images but one of the key stories of whale watching the Gray Whales in San Ignacio Lagoon is the Friendlies. It was one of my photo goals for the trip, to capture this story. Apparently out of curiosity, the whales will approach the Pangas, moms bringing newborn babies along. If you put your hand in the water and splash some come over to get a pet / scratch. I was able to pet a baby on this trip (felt like smooth rubber- the adults of course are covered in barnacles and a different experience). They will even come up to the pangas and investigate when they are tied up to our "cruise" boat (95 foot sportfishing boat). Truly a remarkable experience. You know it's been a good morning when you have to wipe the whale blow off your camera Cindy Marple
