Marine Iguana photographed on Floreana Island, Galapagos. I have just returned home after leading tours in Ecuador, Galapagos and Peru, that being the reason I have been absent from this forum the last couple of months.  It was a lot of fun to have NSN members Charlie Vantassel and Chuck Gangas and their wives along on the Galapagos tour.  The Marine Iguana subspecies on Floreana Island is the brightest of any of this species. I have rarely seen this species with it's mouth open like this.

Nate, the details of this Iguana are so unique and actually quite beautiful. The background is so well done and I like your choice of DOF as well.

One of the most detailed portraits I've seen of these primeval creatures in a long time Nate! This one looks like he's in his breeding colours, and very nicely done!

Thanks for your comments everyone.

Bill, these guys on average are 2-3 feet long as adults, I think the maximum is a little bit more than 1 meter. They do live mostly on the sea shore, they enter the water to feed on sea weed which is their main food.

Love the detail on the skin and the smoothness of the tongue really contrasts with that.

Very well done image, Nate! Love the open mouth and the breathing room on the top of the composition. Beautiful colors in this iguana and they contrast so nicely with the dark gray lava rocks. Well done.
