When the War ended in 1945 the Allied powers withdrew from the Burma campaign. The armies packed their bags and left the sweltering jungles with all the equipment they could transport. However, the horses, who carried the war effort in the east, literally on their backs, proved to be cumbersome to transport.. So they were left here in the jungles of DIbru Saikhowa in Assam, India to fend for themselves.

Here, in a forgotten corner of the front, with the elephants, wild buffaloes, leopards and tigers they and their descendants adopted themselves and the genes of their ancestors took over. They have been roaming the vast riverine terrain, since then, those tresses not sullied by human hands and the backs never bearing the weight of a saddle.

A nice shot! It does appear they have reverted more to their ancestors genes with their shorter, more muscular bodies and heads - very much like the ancient Przewalski breed. They do well to survive the predators in Assam!

Carol nailed it! They are stout, strong looking horses. He looks to be very healthy.

What a story of survival. I like your composition and the moving pose of the horse.
